Why does this super speedy spoilage happen?
It most often happens when you’ve rinsed them before storing them. When you introduce moisture, it actually speeds up molding. Even if they are stored in the fridge, the water creates a friendly environment for bacteria to grow and it breaks down your beautiful berries.
So next time you bring home a bounty of berries, wait to wash them. Then, when you’re ready to eat them, rinse away.
Side note: If you find you can’t eat your berries fast enough, you can always put them in a Ziploc freezer bag and freeze them for future use in a smoothie, baked good or as an ice cream or yogurt topping.
